2013 OCIC Global Changemaker Awards

The message is simple. Youth can make a difference.

The high calibre, integrity and unrelenting enthusiasm of the other recipients of the 2013 OCIC Global Changemaker Awards makes me honoured to be chosen as one of them. They are truly incredible young people who believe and advocate for everyone’s human rights, work with vulnerable and marginalized populations, and contribute to sustainable projects around the world.

2013 OCIC GCM - Positive ChangeThey are not afraid to dream of a better tomorrow. But, dreams don’t happen without effort, intention and motivation. I encourage you to take a look at their stories. We come from diverse backgrounds and interests, and we represent thousands of other youth all over Canada and the rest of the world who are also taking steps towards positive change.

Living in a world where everything is interconnected means we need to be intentional with our choices and realize that our decisions have an impact on other people’s lives.

Every little bit counts. So think about what you spend your money on and where your food comes from, volunteer an hour or two a week for an organization that does good work in your community, or even acknowledge the person who is homeless but holding a sign that reads “have a nice day”. Just start somewhere…

…and keep going.

My story and work with Africa’s Children-Africa’s Future (AC-AF)  can be found here. The campaign is launched by the Ontario Council for International Cooperation (OCIC) to highlight International Development Week 2013 which runs from Feb 3rd to 9th. Sponsored by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).
